Why do companies buy bitcoin? Why did Tesla make such a fuss and why do billionaire firms stock so much of this? Why do governments not follow suit?
This article looks into why people are choosing to "hodl" Bitcoin despite its various criticisms, explaining its potential role as a store of value, especially in times of economic and geopolitical uncertainty. It also examines the increasing acceptance of Bitcoin within the financial sector, with companies like Tesla investing in it, as well as exploring the digital scarcity that gives Bitcoin an edge over other cryptocurrencies, making it attractive to institutions. In addition, it looks at the potential benefits that Bitcoin offers to institutional investors, such as censorship-resistant properties and the possibility of complex financial arrangements that can be programmed into Bitcoin transactions. This paper argues that growing institutional interest suggests that Bitcoin is becoming increasingly accepted in mainstream markets.
